This is a true wonder of the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site that dates back to prehistoric times. It’s one of Asia’s major archaeological sites that represents fascinating history, engineering, art, gardens, geology and culture. Sigiriya is sited in an area of natural beauty, protruding 600ft up and above the surrounding jungle and wildlife.

You steadily climb up ‘Lion Mountain’ for a couple of hours via zig zagging staircases, passing through caves with incredible ancient paintings. Once you reach the top it is every bit worth the climb as it offers breathtaking views for miles and miles. On top of the rock sits ruins of the fifth century Royal Palace that has a fascinating history.
