Luxury Colonial Boutique

Elegant Style in Kandy

This small hotel is a luxury boutique property that brilliantly combines a colonial heritage experience with contemporary design in a peaceful setting. It's ideally located only 10 minutes (2 miles) from the bustle of Kandy city center with it's popular attractions such as the famous Temple Of The Tooth.

This ancient colonial-period bungalow floats above the city of Kandy as it's perched high up the hillside of Pita Kande Hill. This location provides magnificent views on all sides including the dramatic Knuckles Mountains and the Mahaweli River Valley below. Views are best enjoyed from the infinity swimming pool.

Once home to several elephants, the old property has been recently restored to a very high standard. The Old Wing is largely made up of the original residence of Sir Cudah Ratwatte (built in the 1930’s by the Colombo Commercial Company) featuring the original Dining Room, Reception and Living Room that are located downstairs with 3 Bedrooms upstairs including a Reading Room. These are mainly furnished in colonial style with some modern designer touches.

The New Wing is a brand new extension to the Old Wing featuring a Bar and sitting / reading area at the ground level furnished in a modern chic style as well as 2 Bedrooms upstairs that continue the colonial theme with furniture and interiors in a classic style.

The hotel features a collection of 7 rooms and suites that uniquely combine colonial flavour and ambience with chic designer elements.

The beautiful designer swimming pool here is one of the prettiest in Kandy. The infinity edge looks out over the surrounding hills and the town of Kandy. The pool lies in the garden surrounded by large trees and lush tropical foliage. After a day of sightseeing this is the ideal place to cool off, stare into the valley and lounge with a book and cocktail.

The Kitchen Team

The Master Chef here Indika has a team of 3 Chefs under him that conjure up some of the best cuisine in Sri Lanka. The house specialty is traditional Sri Lankan ‘Rice And Curry’ that is specially tailored for foreign appetites. These are slightly mild and less spicy in nature to suit Western taste buds. However it is a pleasure for the kitchen team to cook separately for anyone wanting authentic highly flavoured, spicy curries with a high chili content that is a feature of a typical Sri Lankan diet. Rice And Curry usually consists of some 10 – 12 separate dishes including a choice of chicken, mutton, pork as well as rare and unusual Sri Lankan vegetables. It's a feast for the eyes!

A British / European breakfast is usually served, but with prior notice the previous night the hotel would be glad to serve a traditional Sri Lankan breakfast if required (such as Hoppers, Kiri Bath, Pancakes etc).

If you are in the hotel at lunch time then they serve quick meals and tasty snacks like sandwiches and burgers for lunch. Most guests are busy sightseeing and only drop in for a quick meal in between activities at Kandy.

The hotel offers a guaranteed daily choice of a 3 course Rice And Curry as well as at least one, and possibly two or three separate Fusion and Western options for dinner.

Please Note: As it's a small hotel with only 6 rooms, and to avoid wastage, they usually request you to order dinner during the day or a few hours beforehand in order for us to prepare meals without delay.

They are glad to offer kids meals and vegetarian meal options on request. Other requests such as gluten free meals, halal food etc can be accommodated with plenty of prior notice. Dining is at a location of your choice. We can arrange dining at any location within the hotel premises.

The Green Dining Room (12 pax – 4 tables): Located in the Old Wing. Most suitable for breakfast or during rainy weather. The Bar Verandah (6 pax – 3 tables ): Popular location for breakfast and dinner The Pergola By The Poolside (6 pax – 2 Tables): Very popular for outdoor dining in the evenings so early reservation is essential.
