Galle Fort

The old fortress walled city of Galle is just around the corner from here too, with it’s colourful narrow streets just waiting to be explored! We love it here as the peninsular sea fort is packed full of heritage with many interesting sites such as theglorious old lighthouse, the 300+ year old ramparts, stonewalls and the granite clock tower. It’s a Unesco world heritage site but it’s alive and buzzing. It’s probably on of the best places in south east Asia for things like boutique shops (jewellery, hand made fabrics, antiques and more), little bars, quirky cafes and amazing restaurants. Everywhere here has immense character and charm that echos Sri Lanka’s Portuguese, Dutch and British colonial periods. As you stroll along the historic walls and look out over the gorgeous Indian Ocean you’ll be glad you came here, but you just might not want to leave.
