Martyn & Mary Mellet
Sri Lanka 9 nights & Maldives 7 nights
Overall review: We can't put into words how incredible our honeymoon was. It was everything we ever imagined and so much more - we can't thank you enough. Our only criticism it that we can't afford to do it all again (not yet anyway!)
Sri Lanka - We stayed in 6 places here and thoroughly enjoyed anticipating what each place was going to be like. Each hotel was very different to the last, some in the city, , some in the mountains and some seemed like they were in the middle of nowhere - they all welcomed us with drinks, cold towels and there was always exotic fruits in our room, which was always a lovely touch. The staff at all hotels were so helpful, so kind and we wouldn't walk past anyone without them saying hello, which was lovely!
Our favourite by far was Jetwing Vil Uyana - our own little slice of heaven, with a plunge pool, what could be better? It was so unique and so vast, it felt like we were in the middle of the wild with monkeys and fruit bats lurking outside our room. We are so glad we got to spend 3 nights here, 1 night just wouldn't have been enough to take in how peaceful, romantic and truly amazing this place is. Our highlights were the tree top dinner, our treatments in the spa and the staff made us feel extra special, with cake and biscuits delivered to our room every night! Another 2 favourites of ours were The Fortress in Galle and Jetwing Yala - just that extra bit more special than the others!
Maldives - Atmosphere Kanifushi
If you haven't been, YOU NEED TO! If the Maldives isn't on your bucket list, IT NEEDS TO BE! Wow, wow, wow - when you think you've seen it all, you really haven't. We didn't really know what to expect, Sri Lanka exceeded all expectations that we didn't know if Kanifushi would be as good, but it's like nothing we've ever seen before. White sand and turquoise sea was all we saw when we arrived by sea plane, we were welcomed by the manager and lots of other staff, oh and bongos - we felt very important! For the 7 nights we stayed in a dreamy Junior Suite with endless cocktails, wonderful restaurants, a tranquil spa, a complimentary massage, amazing staff, complimentary dinner on the beach, snorkelling, incredible sunsets - pure relaxation, pure heaven!
Chauffeur-Guide: Not a chauffeur-guide, more a friend! Ruchi was truly incredible, we can't say enough good things about him! From teaching us endless things (and testing us on it too), making sure we WERE well hydrated, stopping at the shop to buy us a sprite and some chocolate biscuits (and maybe pizza hut too), from taking us to little hidden gems (waterfalls, a blow hole and a lighthouse) and buying us exotic fruit that we'd never tried before - He was so organised, never late, knew everything that was going on and ensured we were comfortable and most importantly enjoying ourselves. The best thing about Ruchi was his humour, he was so funny and put up with me (Mary) asking very silly questions, he is so friendly and couldn't have done more for us! Thank you :))
Excursions: Our excursions in Sri Lanka .......Elephant Orphanage, Pidurangala & Sigiriya Rock Fortress, Elephant Wildlife Safari, Dambulla Cave Temples, Kandy Perahera, Scenic Train Journey, Cooking Class, Tea Factory Tour, Leapord Wildlife Safari, Sea Turtle Hatchery, Galle Fort Tour.
Our favourites and a must if you book a holiday in Sri Lanka were Sigirya Rock Fortress for the most beautiful views we've ever seen, The Elephant Safari for a chance to see hundreds of elephants in their natural habitat, The Scenic Train Journey in 3rd class to experience the wonderful views and locals, The Sea Turtle Hatchary to hold a baby turtle and learn how they are kept safe and finally the Galle Fort Tour for more amazing views and some culture too (and a little shopping)!
Best memory of the trip: We've been asked this question a lot. We always say it's so hard to compare Sri Lanka and the Maldives because of the contrast with adventure a pure relaxation. Obviously the Maldives was truly out of the world, but our best memories were the Elephant Safari (Sri Lanka), the sea turtle hatchery (Sri Lanka) and snorkling (Maldives).
How was the trip overall: Excellent
Could we have served you any better?: Free trip for our 1 year anniversary?
Any ideas on what we could do differently to make our travel service even better?: Nothing- It was the perfect balance of relaxation and adventure - we had lots of time to relax in Sri Lanka and we were still able to experience so many things! THANK YOU!
Good enough to recommend?: Yes
Would you travel with us again?: Yes
