There are 3 types of transfer in the Maldives, these are speedboats, seaplanes and domestic flights. Depending on how far from Male the resort island is will dictate which type of transfer you need to take from Male. All Maldives holiday bookings with Invite to Paradise include transfers.
You will arrive in the Maldives by international flight to the main international airport called Ibrahim Nasir International Airport, Male, Maldives. It is located on Hulhule Island in the North Male Atoll, near the capital island Male. You then have to transfer to your island resort.
Speedboat transfers to nearby resort islands are available from the airport. You will be guided to the relevant speedboat by our airport representative then your luggage will be loaded on to the boat. It's great fun riding in the speedboat as it cuts through the bright blue water towards your island resort in the Indian Ocean.
Seaplanes are a safe, exciting and efficient way to reach your resort island in the Maldives. It is a real experience to take a seaplane, especially for the first time and it is always amazing to see the islands of the Maldives from the sky as it is just so picturesque and pretty. Interestingly Male Airport hosts the biggest sea plane operations in the world. If you are interested in finding out more about how seaplane transfers work in the Maldives then please watch the below video which shows and explains everything to do with seaplanes in the Maldives and how it works.
Seaplane - Weight Allowance
Please note that the standard permissible weight on a seaplane is 25 kg, which includes 20 kg of checked-in luggage and 5 kg of hand luggage per person. The weight for any bag should not exceed 32 kg. The per kg charge for baggage above the permissible limit is USD 5.00/- plus applicable taxes. These weight allowances are not set by Invite to Paradise, they are set by the Maldives seaplane operators Trans Maldivian Airways (TMA).
If your island resort is too far to reach by seaplane then you will be transported instead by domestic flight to the nearest local airport to the island resort. You will then be transported by speedboat from the local airport to the island resort.
