Our Opinion

Having stayed at this resort and experienced the island first hand, here at Invite to Paradise we think Coco Bodu Hithi is amazing. It’s Stylish, relaxed, luxurious, stunning and traditionally Maldivian with a contemporary edge.

Coco Bodu Hithi island resort is the ultimate setting for a luxury holiday or honeymoon in the Maldives. If you fancy spoiling yourselves and having a real luxury treat then this is the place for you.

Getting there

The 5 star tropical Maldives holiday resort island Coco Bodu Hithi is perfectly situated in the north west of the North Malé Atoll, just a 40 minute speedboat journey across the stunning blue waters of the Maldives from the Male International Airport.

After arriving at the airport in the Maldives you will be greeted by our wonderful airport representative and guided out of the airport to your luxury speedboat before speeding off for the time of your lives in paradise for either your holiday, family holiday or honeymoon.

We think the Coco Bodu Hithi boats tend to be a bit more luxurious and stylish than many other resorts’ boats. The seats are so comfy and we loved the use of brown leather and yellow stitching throughout. The staff on the boat - in their matching yellow t-shirts, cool sunglasses, shorts and bare feet - are so friendly and professional, they immediately make you feel chilled out as they greet with a cold face towel and cooling drinks. They really set the tone and give you the feeling of how relaxed, comfy and stylish things are going to be at Coco Bodu Hithi. You are then whisked away in the speedboat across the atoll. As you leave Male the speed increases and you cut through bright blue waters before reaching the one of the nicest slices or paradise we have ever encountered. This part of the journey is over and the journey in to the heart of paradise is about to begin.

As the boat slows down and you reach the island’s lofty arrival the pavilion, you hop out to such a genuinely warm welcome by some of the resort’s amazing staff members who have come to greet you. You look ahead and see the sun bleached wooden jetty stretching out in front of you, leading to a scene that you will forever more want to jump back into, this is the island of Bodu Hithi. With the turquoise shallow lagoon either side of you, you catch little glimpses of the island’s splendid coral reef with colourful exotic fish swimming by and wonder what mysteries it holds. Ahead, the tropical island jumps out at you, with it’s lush green coconut trees reaching for the sun and the most perfect white sandy beach you could imagine. To the left you see the impressive glass walled swimming pool, cabanas, bar and the thatched roofs of one of the speciality restaurants. It’s so pretty, you just want to stop, take a photograph and then jump right in.

The concierge informs you that the resort is one hour ahead of ‘Male time’ in order to save daylight. Every minute here is blissful and precious. You step foot on the island and realise that you may never want to leave this place (at least the memories of it will never leave you).

A buggy awaits you on the leafy lined sandy path and takes you in to the heart of the island through its remarkable, and well established, Maldivian flora to find your luxury villa where you can begin your relaxing holiday or honeymoon in the Maldives.

Island Villa

Coco Bodu Hithi's Island Villa rooms are very spacious and beautifully designed, they are the biggest villas at the resort and are amongst the best beach villas, and best lead-in room categories, that we have experienced in the Maldives. These retreats combine the best of traditional Maldivian design with the latest in personal luxury. The rooms are open plan, yet intimate and each villa includes a feature bathing area where you can submerge yourself in the large central tub. The relaxing master bedroom has a comfortable king-sized bed and a sunken living area with sofa, flat screen TV and personal bar. If this wasn't enough the rooms also benefit from having their own private courtyard and pool, ideal for cooling off from the hot tropical sunshine. There's also a daybed in the courtyard and a sundeck on the beach side of the room that has views straight through to the gorgeous beach and sea. You can wake up in the morning and literally just stroll out on to the picture perfect beach and have a dip in the gorgeous turquoise waters. What a way to start your day! The only issue is this place will spoil you rotten, so when you come back home to reality you may find that you really miss the perfect lazy days in this luxury paradise island resort. The Island

The coral island, with it’s crescent-like shape, is ringed with pristine beach, awash with crystal clear turquoise waters and dotted with Island Villas and restaurants around its perimeter. There is a renowned coral house reef, ideal for both snorkelling and diving alike. At either end of the island there is a wooden jetty built on stilts leading to the 3 different categories of over water villas and also the over water spa. The island is narrow one end and wider the other end. At its widest point you can find all the main facilities and also the team village where the resident staff live.

The sandy path, flanked with dense tropical flora, weaves through the middle of the island around the many native trees. You catch glimpses of the curvy high white walls decorated with pretty circular stone mosaics that surround the Island Villas - they give the guests inside great levels of privacy. As you follow the path around the island doesn’t feel manufactured or too uniform, unlike some of the newer Maldives resorts, Bodu Hithi island is very much naturally beautiful, established and still looks intriguingly wild off the paths. The paths are so well maintained and swept with care and regularity by the experienced gardening team. Moving around the island either by buggy or by foot you get a cosy feeling as you pass under the towering green canopy. It’s not just coco palm trees here, there is a wonderful variety of Maldivian trees, bushes and flowers. The little carved wooden signs allow you to find your way around, pointing to the water villas, beach or various restaurants and bars.

Keep an eye out for the wooden yellow and brown house keeping trolleys as the team wheel them along the island. They are crafted to look like traditional wooden dhoni boats so - very unique. The little touches like this set Coco Bodi Hithi apart from the crowd.

The service is top drawer at this resort - the staff do a fantastic job. They all look so smart yet relaxed in their uniforms in shades of white and sandy colours with their sandals, big smiles and discrete yet highly attentive service to the guests. The resort features an array of professional staff members with varying skills ranging from executive chefs and managers to maintenance and gardening teams. There are so many members of staff that stand out including the role of the Resident Manager who has a huge smile, is very friendly and a welcoming personality. We found him to be so approachable and open with all the guests - he doesn’t seem to rest on his laurels, he leads by example and can often be found walking around the resort making sure everyone is happy: He even puts on a complimentary beach cocktail party at sunset for guests each week (often on a Monday). You know when a person like this is in charge everyone else will also be extremely good at taking care of you.

There’s a large selection of dishes on the in-villa menu - you won’t be disappointed.

The first facility to greet you is the sandy floored main reception Meridian, followed by the little boutique island shop Equator and the resident jewellery shop Sifani. There’s also an impressive over-the-water gym, the Longitude departure lounge, a range of indoor games and a tennis and volleyball court.

Coco Spa

We think the most impressive facility is the Coco Spa. This utterly relaxing space looks so picture perfect, located over the water, it sits on a giant balu wooden deck with gorgeous sea views all around. The treatment sessions can be tailored to your exact preferences. The resident spa therapists are professional, friendly and dedicated to their craft. Choose from hydrating facials, relaxing massage rituals and soothing body therapies. In-villa treatments can also be arranged on request but we recommend experiencing a treatment in this amazing space over the Indian Ocean.

Snorkelling and Diving

The Maldives is globally recognised as one of the best diving destinations in the world. Coco Bodu Hithi is located in the North Malé Atoll and the resort is rightfully renowned for its crystal clear water and breath-taking underwater landscape. We think it’s perfect for both advanced divers and also first time divers. Those who have never tried diving before can partake in the PADI discover scuba diving activity which we have experienced and thoroughly recommend as the experienced instructors here are wonderful and take great care of you. The house reef at tis island resort is in good condition and offers great opportunities for photography and exploration as you drift-dive with the current amongst the fascinating coral caverns teaming with fish.
